County tops out $90M administration building O•cials celebrated the highest point of con- struction for the future Williamson County Admin- istration Building during an April 11 ceremony. In a nutshell The county hosted a “topping-out” ceremony to commemorate the occasion for the administration building, which is set to open spring 2026. “This new location will provide for the needs of the third fastest-growing county in Texas, while providing the same dedication residents expect from us for the next 100 years,” Precinct 3 Com- missioner Valerie Covey said in a news release. The three-story, 120,000-square-foot building will house 12 county departments, such as the commissioners courtroom, county tax assessor’s o•ce, county judge’s o•ce. Over 1,900 employees serve more than 727,000 residents in Williamson County, Covey said.

Downtown road crossing complete A new pedestrian crossing in Round Rock’s downtown recently opened as part of renovations to the Gri•th Building and surrounding area. The details The crossing connects Prete Plaza to a downtown paseo under construction. After a monthlong closure, Main Street reopened with the crossing, which allows for a safer route in downtown, according to the city.

Council approves water rehab projects Three contracts for water rehabilitation services were approved at a March 27 Round Rock City Council meeting. What happened Council passed a change order with Texas Pride Utilities for additional work on the Cycle 3, Basins 4 and 5 wastewater line rehabilitation project. The $32,000 contract brings the total cost of work to $1.4 million. For the West Transmission Main Valve Replacement, council passed a change order with DCS Engineering for additional scope of services. The $143,810 adjustment brings the total cost of the project to $168,235. The last contract, a $125,000 consulting agreement with Hot Inspection Services, will further work on the 2026 Chandler Ele- vated Storage Tank Rehabilitation Project.

Work begins on Round Rock Amazon facility Dirt is turning on the Amazon site at CR 172 in Round Rock, after receiving approval for mass grading of the site in March. To continue with plans to build a 223,285-square-foot warehouse on the property, Amazon representatives will meet with the city for a site development permit, he said. for a new Amazon warehouse and distribution center. Additional details provided in the appli- cation state the structure will be at least 120 feet in height. The property was annexed into the city limits last year. New proposals approved at that time include plans for a potential data center and substation. The warehouse and distribution center alone is estimated to bring $250 million in real property improvements and roughly 150 to 200 jobs to the city, according to Jessica Breaux, Amazon’s senior manager of economic development.

Funding the project The $90 million administration building was designed by San Antonio-based Marmon Mok Architecture and is being constructed by Round Rock-based Chasco Constructors. The project broke ground in May. Funding comes from a 2021 tax anticipation note, which allows government entities to issue debt and repay with future tax collections.
