Clear Creek ISD begins new cellphone policy Students at Clear Creek ISD will be required to store personal devices away for the duration of the school day on school property beginning in the 2025-26 school year. The new policy—which was approved by the board of trustees at its July 28 meeting—comes after the passage of House Bill 1481 during the 89th Texas Legislature. HB 1481 prohibits the use of cellphones, smartwatches and other personal communication devices throughout the school day for all Texas public schools. What you need to know If a student uses a personal device during the school day on school property, it will result in “con- fiscation of the device, return of the device at the end of the school day and notification to parents.” The text comes from the district’s updated code of conduct. San Jacinto College to launch new program Intuitive Machines has partnered with San Jacinto College to launch a training program focused on biopharmaceutical material handling to help with the commercial return of pharmaceuticals from space, according to a July 17 news release. The gist The program will train technicians to handle, inspect and transfer pharmaceutical payloads delivered by Intuitive Machines’ reentry vehicles as part of its Earth Reentry Program, which is backed by a Texas Space Commission grant, according to the release. The college will build the program using its existing curriculum from the National Insti- tute for Bioprocessing Research and Training, according to the release. The first phase of the Earth Reentry Program is expected to finish in early 2026.
What to know
Devices include cellphones, nondistrict-issued electronic devices, smartwatches, AirPods and all Bluetooth- enabled headphones or accessories.
Devices must be powered off and stored out of sight.
Recording anyone or any situation using a personal device is strictly forbidden.
In case of an emergency, campus administrators may give students permission to access their cellphones.

The overview SROs are fully licensed law enforcement officers assigned to campuses for safety and to handle emergencies, according to district documents. The agreement comes as the current three-year contract, which started in 2021 and was extended to July of this year, nears its end, according to district agenda documents. Trustees also approved a separate item to include a three-year contract for an administrative assistant for the SRO program, documents note.
