AREAS OF NEED Conroe ISD’s proposed $1.99 billion bond package includes four dierent propositions. The items listed in propositions A and B are considered major necessities, while propositions C and D are considered as additional needs, according to the district.
School, which started the 2023-24 school year at 114% capacity, and Caney Creek High School and Peet and Stockton junior high schools, which are at 99% and 102% capacity, respectively. A Hwy. 242 corridor elementary school is also proposed that will not be feeder specic, Null said, to give relief to both the Caney Creek feeder and Suchma Elementary. He said the campus will likely serve as a cross feeder elementary campus. San Jacinto and Creighton ele- mentary schools in Conroe will also undergo major renovations to increase capacity. As of May 1, Creighton Ele- mentary was at 146% capacity, one of the most crowded schools in the dis- trict. Washington High School is also expected to undergo a master plan that will increase the school by 400 seats. Null said a master plan changes the way a school works by rebuilding a portion of the building. A major ren- ovation, he said, includes upgrading the behind-the-scenes mechanics of a school along with visual changes, such as paint, oors and design, but the building functions the same. According to state Senate Bill 30, which was signed into law in 2019, school districts are required to provide one proposition for general purposes and separate propositions for special purposes to be voted on individually. The remaining $175.78 million in the package would go toward three other propositions. Proposition B includes $40 million for new technology devices, which was left out of the 2019 bond when the proposed $807 million bond was cut to the approved $653.5 million. Technology devices include Chrome- books, iPads, online instruction capa- bilities, printers and computers. Proposition C would provide $112.87 million to add elementary gyms to all 16 campuses without one—six of which are located in Con- roe—as well as build a new agriculture barn shared by the Conroe and Caney Creek feeder zones. Lastly, Proposi- tion D would fund a new 50-meter outdoor pool with an expansion and upgrades to the current natatorium. The need Chane Reagan, a co-spokesperson for the bond committee, said the dis- trict is behind in building schools, which is why the bond committee made new campuses and expanding

in Montgomery County,” he said. If the entire $1.995 billion bond package is approved, Null said the estimated tax impact would be $0.02 per $100 valuation. According to a presentation Aug. 1, the average home value in CISD is $350,000, which would result in an estimated addi- tional $4.17 per month in property taxes or about $50 annually. The bond Proposition A, which makes up 91% of the $1.995 billion package, includes funding for eight new schools, ve major campus renovations, three additions and two master plans. With the addition of land acquisition, safety, infrastructure and transporta- tion, Proposition A totals $1.82 billion. Of the eight new proposed cam- puses, four schools would be built in the Conroe and Caney Creek areas including a new Conroe-area high school, a Caney Creek ninth-grade campus, a Conroe-area junior high and a Conroe-area intermediate school.
