Montgomery, Willis ISDs begin search for new leadership

According to previous report- ing, Heath Morrison, MISD

superintendent since July 2020, announced his resignation July 12. Busby’s rst day in the interim role was Aug. 1. “We believe Dr. Busby’s tenure with the district and experience as part of Dr. Morrison’s senior leader- ship team makes her exceptionally qualied to lead MISD as our interim superintendent as we search for the best long-term t for this role,” board President Laurie Turner said in a July 19 release.

Montgomery and Willis ISDs have begun the superintendent search process following resignations. The WISD board of trustees selected former Superintendent Tom Crowe to serve as interim superinten- dent during a July 18 special board meeting, the district announced. Crowe, who began as interim superintendent July 24, steps in to replace Tim Harkrider, who served as WISD superintendent since 2013 until he announced his departure in June. LAKE CREEK HIGH SCHOOL

MONTGOMERY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Renovations include upgrading technology infrastructure in all classrooms, upgrading lighting, reconguring and upgrading the library, renovating the kitchen, and adding restrooms to the gym. Additionally, the front entry to the school is being rebuilt to improve safety and functionality. Estimated construction cost: $6.38 million Timeline: May-August

LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Renovations include technology upgrades, a full kitchen replacement, and the main entry being recongured, according to the district. A new car rider line and parking lot conguration will also allow for more parking and a safer site for the playground. Gym and playground work will be completed this fall. Estimated construction cost: $4.59 million Timeline: May-August

CREEKSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Construction is ongoing at Lake Creek High School in Montgomery ISD to add capacity for 900 more students, which includes adding a wing of classroom and lab spaces alongside an additional parking lot, according to the district. The project is expected to be nished ahead of the 2024-25 school year. Estimated construction cost: $27.8 million Timeline: May 2023-August 2024

Montgomery ISD’s seventh elementary school is under

construction near Lake Creek High School. Work on the new campus began with a groundbreaking in June. When completed ahead of the 2024- 25 school year, the school will span approximately 95,000 square feet and have a capacity of 900 students. Estimated construction cost: $33.5 million Timeline: June 2023-July 2024

July 24: Crowe begins as interim superintendent.

Superintendents at both Montgomery and Willis ISDs announced their resignations this summer, which has caused the districts to begin the search for new leadership.

July 6: Trustees name Sara Goolsby, the assistant superintendent of innovation, teaching and learning, as acting superintendent.

June 12: Superintendent Tim Harkrider announces he’s resigning to become superintendent of College Station ISD.

Aug. 1 Busby begins serving as interim superintendent.
