REGIONAL DINING FEATURE

District Six Georgetown bar serves up locally sourced ingredients T ucked away at the corner of West Ninth and Main streets in Georgetown is District Six, the downtown bar owned by Justin Bohls and his brother Gary Brown. Owning a bar was a longtime dream for Bohls that was fullled with District Six in March 2021. “I have always wanted to open a bar, but I didn’t want it to serve your typical bar food,” Bohls said. “We locally source a lot of our ingredients, and we make most everything from scratch.” District Six has several bar-friendly dishes, such as hot wings, barbecue carrots and street corn queso, but it also serves a Texas Wagyu Smash- burger, and its most popular dish—according to Bohls—is the Thai Glazed Wild Boar Ribs. The bar does not have a sign, so one has to be a bit adventurous when looking for it, Bohls said about the unassuming location. “We have been active in the Georgetown commu- nity for a long time and always wanted to be part of the downtown Square,” Bohls said. “A friend of mine let me know when this [location] went on the market.” Bohls and his wife, Katy, have been longtime residents and business owners in Georgetown, having opened two event venues, the Union on Eighth in 2013 and Wish Well House on South Main Street more recently. “My wife moved to Georgetown when she was young and graduated from Georgetown High School, so she has lived here most of her life,” Bohls said. Katy is an interior designer and created the relaxed, bright and airy ambience in the bar. According to Bohls, she wanted to make it a place where everyone wants to hang out, even if they are not watching sports. In addition to 21 TVs dedicated to sports, District Six also has 33 beers on tap, a selection of wine and a full bar. BY BRITTANY ANDES
