Education Edition
2025
Welcome to Community Impact’s annual Education Edition This is one of my favorite special editions we do every year. In this guide we feature the latest updates and resources about local K-12 public school options in your community. All of the stories were written by our team of local journalists, and all of the advertisements are from nearby businesses who support our mission to provide free, useful news—please show them your gratitude by supporting them. In this edition, you will see stories about Prosper ISD and Celina ISD. Some of the stories include a look at Celina ISD’s new partnership with Cook Children’s for health services, a snapshot of the first day of school in August and an interview with the Prosper ISD Education Foundation’s executive director. Though this edition every year is focused on education, we cover your local schools every day. You can read those stories daily on our website or in our free daily newsletter.

Celina ISD partners with Cook Children’s for health services
Celina ISD is partnering with Cook Children’s Medical Center-Prosper—bringing new health care services to its students. Starting this school year, students at CISD campuses will have access to Cook Children’s Virtual Health program through the school nurse’s office. This allows students to be diagnosed for common illnesses such as fevers, earaches, rashes, sore throat and pink eye, according to an Aug. 6 news release. “Cook Children’s has cared for generations of children across North Texas, just as Celina ISD has shaped their minds and futures,” CISD Superin- tendent Thomas Maglisceau said in the release. “Together, we’re ensuring every student is both well-educated and well-cared for.” Another detail As part of the partnership, primary care pro- viders will receive communication after the Cook Children’s visit with prescription support and visit
summaries. Any necessary prescriptions will be sent to a family’s preferred pharmacy and a school excuse note will be provided by the time a parent arrives to pick up their child, the release stated. The partnership will embed high-quality pedi- atric care into the lives of nearly 6,000 students in one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas, the release stated. “As two organizations committed to putting children first, this partnership represents a natural alignment,” said Kevin Greene, president of Cook Children’s Medical Center-Prosper. “We’re hon- ored to partner with Celina ISD in our continued promise: everything for the child.” The program is intended to save time for fami- lies, reduce contagious illness spread and subse- quent lost school days as well as prevent parents and guardians from leaving work immediately for a last minute doctor’s appointment or trip to an urgent care, Cook Children’s officials said.
Providing medical care
A Cook Children’s provider works with a school nurse to assess a child
The provider can hear a student’s heart and lungs through a digital stethoscope
A high definition camera allows the provider to examine a student’s ears, throat, rash or abrasions
A record of the visit is kept in Cook Children’s medical records and a copy is sent to the primary care physician on record
