AISD OKs substitute pay increase

Also of note

District staff said the new pay rates will go into effect next semester. “It’s very important to be able to fill all of our requests for subs,” Chief Financial Officer Liz Stewart said. “You don’t want a classroom going uncovered.” In addition, the board approved hiring five special education aide positions to prepare for increased enrollment. The district hired five additional contingency aides at the start of the school year and has already filled all of those positions. The additional positions will help the district to proactively prepare for potential increases in special education teaching units, per district documents. This will cost the district $162,000 and will come from the maintenance and operations budget, according to district documents.

The Argyle ISD board approved a $10 per day pay increase for substitute teachers and paraprofessionals at a Dec. 15 meeting. AISD has experienced challenges in maintaining an adequate pool of substitute teachers and paraprofessionals to meet daily campus needs, per district documents. The new pay rates are: • $100 per day for non-degreed substitute teachers • $105 per day for substitute teachers with degrees • $110 per day for Texas-certified teachers • $135 per day for long-term substitutes • $135 per day for a registered nurse • $95 per day for paraprofessionals This will cost the district $70,000 and the funds will come from the maintenance and operations budget, per district documents.

“Being involved in my church, in the school band, and as a member of the National Junior Honor Society are how I give back to my community and to my school.” Clarisa says her future plans are to get her degree in the healthcare field. “Enjoying the small things and living in the moment is what I try and live by”, she adds. “I have taken GoZone a few times and always have a good experi- ence. The drivers make sure that we are comfortable and safe while in their vehicle.” Future aspirations: Pediatrics/Nursing
