global HCA Healthcare Enterprise, the largest healthcare corporation in the nation. The HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division includes the Pearland location and 16 additional acute care hospitals from Houston to Brownsville. David Wagner was the first CEO of HCA Healthcare Pearland. After Wagner’s tragic death in August of 2024, Armendariz became CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland later that year in December. Jeanette Pennick, HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), said Armendariz’s commitment to healthcare and the Pearland community would resonate with Wagner, saying Armendariz is very “like minded, like David,” and that the hospital is “very blessed” to have Elias. In March of 2025, the Pearland City Council voted unanimously to rename Medical Center Drive to David Wagner Way and Marketplace Boulevard to HCA Healthcare Boulevard. Pearland Mayor, Kevin Cole, said “It was going to be Wagner Way, and I said ‘No, it needs to be David Wagner Way.’ I want people generations from now to remember him.” The public is invited to celebrate the road renaming on Monday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland “It’s very rare that you see a boulevard or a street renamed. Come play a part in it. It’s a part of our Pearland history; it’s a part of who we are as a community,” Mayor Cole said.
