Water study’s second phase moves forward The second phase of developing a flood mitigation plan for the Lower Clear Creek and Dickinson Bayou watersheds near Friendswood and League City has received approval to move forward from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In a nutshell A delegation of city and county officials traveled to Washington D.C. in June to seek formal approval from the USACE. In 2022, League City and Galveston County coordinated with more than a dozen local entities to complete Phase 1, which included a number of small and large projects. The background The study stemmed from flooding in the area caused by Hurricane Harvey.
Manvel OKs zoning change for medical clinic Manvel City Council voted 7-0 at its Aug. 4 meeting to approve the second and final reading of a zoning change that will allow for the develop- ment of a new medical clinic in town. The gist The 0.55-acre vacant lot is located at 19200 Morris Ave., along the south side of Hwy. 6. It was rezoned from light commercial to the same designation with a specific-use permit. The item was approved with several conditions, including the hours of operation, requirements for the project’s site plan and landscaping, among others. According to city documents, property owner Charles Huang plans to develop the site into Manvel Medical Clinic, offering family medicine, preventative care, ultrasound imaging and allergy testing, among other services.

The clinic would be part of a broader network with existing locations across the Greater Houston area, including in Conroe, Humble and Kingwood. How we got here The project dates back to April when the developer met with the city to discuss the project, according to city documents. In July, the city’s Planning, Development and Zoning Commission recommended unanimously that council approve the project, documents show. Later that same month, City Council approved the first reading of the ordinance unanimously at its July 21 meeting.
