Jay Mac Sanders appointed new justice of the peace Montgomery County commissioners on Jan. 7 unanimously approved the appointment of Jay Mac Sanders as the new Precinct 3 justice of the peace to ll out a two-year unexpired term left by Matt Beasley before the position is up for re-elec- tion in 2026.
IAH Terminal B lobby to close until 2026 The Terminal B lobby at George Bush Intercontinental Airport temporarily closed beginning Jan. 21 due to progress in the $2.5 billion expansion of the terminal, accord- ing to a news release from United Airlines. The terminal, where passengers currently check in for ights, pass through Trans- portation Security Administration security and claim baggage, is expected to reopen in 2026, per the release. The background The terminal’s expansion broke ground in November 2023, Community Impact previ- ously reported, and is expected to be com- pleted by 2028. The project is set to include: • Forty new gates for larger aircrafts • New United Club Early bag storage facility • Two concession hubs with food and retail space

Assistant County Attorney Amy Davidson explained to commissioners that Texas Local Government Code requires the county to ll the position as opposed to holding a special election. ballot in November 2026 and Sanders’ term will go through the end of 2026. Sanders is a real estate broker and owner of Mustard Seed Realtors in The Woodlands area. Sanders previously ran for The Woodlands Town- ship Board of Directors in 2012, and for Precinct 3 commissioner in 2016. In their words “It’s a blessing,” Sanders said. “God has allowed this to occur, and I look forward to working with the constituency [as] justice of the peace Precinct 3 and looking forward to hitting the ground running.” Company puts in bid to take over Howard Hughes Hedge fund management company Pershing Square announced a proposal to merge with The Woodlands’ developer Howard Hughes in a Jan. 13 letter, which would see Pershing become a “larger, permanent” owner. Two-minute impact According to the letter sent by Pershing Square CEO Bill Ackman to the Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. board of directors, the merger was proposed following an internal stakeholder discussion regarding making Howard Hughes a privately held organization due to investor concerns that the company’s stock value was not increasing at the rate desired by shareholders. In a statement Jan. 13, Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. conrmed the board’s receipt of the proposal, restating an Aug. 4 remark that the board formed a special committee to explore Pershing Square’s interest in a possible transaction. “The special committee will evaluate the proposal and determine the appropriate course of action and

Oak Ridge North city ocials approved a variance Jan. 13 to allow the opening of the Project Beacon Access Center, a resource center for adults with autism. Ocials agreed to grant a variance request to open a new center for Project Beacon. Project Beacon Executive Director Kelly Baughman said the new facility will allow the organization to grow.
