There are multiple ways people can experience House of Shine, such as workshops to discover strengths, nd out personal Enneagram numbers, be a member of student leadership groups, explore the free museum and much more. The interactive museum focuses on learning about self. Stations represent the SHINE acronym. S is for “strengths,” H is “hobbies,” I is for “interests,” N is for “needs,” and E is for “experiences.” Taking participants’ self-discoveries to an impactful level is a key component to the mission of this nonprot. “I realized people who are excellent at what they do have realized how to take their innate talent and gifts and combine them with their natural interests and use them to ll a need in the world,” Beeny said. “When you bring those three things together—talent, interest and need—that point of intersection is when you’re living your best life. It’s when you shine.”
“So many students get to college and don’t really know why they are there,” Beeny said. “Because of my background in human development and curric- ulum design, I could create curriculum that would close the gap. I could help people discover who they were and how to use who they were to make a positive dierence in their part of the world.” Beeny, who has a master’s degree in college student personnel and a doctorate in human devel- opment, spent a lot of time writing curriculum then going to schools to teach it to sta and students. “Content that explicitly unearths who you are instead of just believing it will naturally happen as you grow and develop,” she said. In 2020, because she outgrew her home work- space, she opened House of Shine in Grapevine. “I knew we needed to create a space where we could ‘do’ who we were, attract people to it and focus on one of our core values, which is being
