Tim Holifield told The Woodlands Town- ship board of directors in his annual law enforcement report Jan. 23. The total number of burglaries reported to the sheriff’s office in 2018 decreased by 36.4 percent compared to 2017, while the number of vehicle burglaries decreased by 11.8 percent, according to the report. The number of monthly calls for service increased throughout the year, which can be partially attributed to an increase in the number of officers on the street, he said. SHUTTLE SERVICE The buses will pick up and drop off passengers at the Sterling Ridge Park and Ride location.

The cost per passenger will be $25, according to Ruthanne Haut, deputy director of community services for The Woodlands Township. For the township to break even on the costs for the service, it will need to sell 23 tickets per bus. The total cost to the township is estimated at $30,870. “There seems to be support for this initiative to see if this works,” town- ship Chairman Gordy Bunch said. Bunch said the service is contin- gent on finding a safe location near NRG Park to drop passengers off. Reservations and a schedule are available on the township website. Passengers will be able to buy tickets online but not through the township’s mobile app.

A new pilot program that will offer weekend service from The Woodlands to NRG Park throughout the rodeo season, which will run Feb. 25- March 17, was approved during the Jan. 16 meeting of The Woodlands Township board of directors. Town- ship directors had previously dis- cussed the item in December but had not officially approved the item. The preliminary bus schedule— which is subject to change—includes 10 runs to the rodeo grounds begin- ning at 9 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m., and 13 runs returning to The Woodlands beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at 11 p.m., for weekend rodeo MONTGOMERY COUNTY Judge Mark Keough’s first Montgomery County Commissioners Court meeting as the new county judge was Jan. 8, and his first move was to decrease his own sal- ary by $15,000 along with decreasing his chief of staff’s salary. Keough’s new salary is $154,774, and his chief of staff’s is $108,959. It was approved unanimously, and the excess funds were shuffled to the Precinct 4 asphalt account. It was also Precinct 4 Commissioner James Metts’ first court meeting on the job. “I’m genuinely excited about working with all four of these men,” Keough said of the commissioners. SHENANDOAH Shenandoah City Council on Jan. 23 granted an exten- sion by a 4-1 vote for construction to begin on the Woodlofts multiuse apartment complex. The ordinance sets Aug. 14 as the new date to begin construction on the residential and retail project located on just over 5 acres at 201 David Vetter Blvd., Shenandoah. New Montgomery County judge reduces own salary in first move during Jan. 8 meeting

Incorporation study gets new community website THE WOODLANDS TOWNSHIP The Novak Consulting Group, a firm leading The Woodland Township’s incorporation study, announced the launch of a new website Jan. 23 to provide information on the project to the community. The website, www.thewoodlandsin- corporationstudy.com, includes info- graphics, timelines and data about the township’s ongoing study as well as a document library containing financial models, reports and other information. The township retained the Novak group to complete the study after ending its contract last year with Matrix Consulting Group, the firm previously leading the effort. project has been pushed back by a series of delays relating to funding, the developers said. Council Member Michael McLeod questioned the delays with the proj- ect, stating a previous extension had been approved in February 2018. The Woodlofts will consist of two buildings, including 350 multifamily units, a parking structure and 14,500 feet of retail space.
