San Jacinto River Authority settles lawsuit The San Jacinto River Authority board of directors on Aug. 15 announced it approved an agreement with the city of Conroe to end litiga- tion over the SJRA Groundwater Reduction Plan initiated in 2016. The background The legal disputes began when Conroe in 2016 disputed increases in wholesale water rates related to the SJRA’s 2019 Groundwater Reduction Plan, according to the release. Groundwater Reduction Plan contracts took eect in 2015 after Montgomery County’s Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District enacted limits on groundwater pumping in 2008, before the groundwater district’s board was changed to an elected membership. The contracts allowed the SJRA to draw surface water from Lake Con- roe, treat it and sell it to cities and utilities in

LSC program receives $1.5M, art donations The Lone Star College-Montgomery Fine Arts program has received a $1.5 million Nathaniel Emerson Endowment along with six donated art pieces, the college announced in an Aug. 15 news release. What to know The campus will use the funds to add more state-of-the-art equipment, workshop events and professional speaker series, according to the news release. At LSCMont- gomery, the endowment and donated art pieces will help establish new avenues for learning, according to the release. The six art pieces were donated by Jerey Kass and Holli and Shaheen Ladhani, includ- ing works by Joan Miro and Marc Chagall as well as several untitled pieces.

Montgomery County, including municipal utility districts in The Woodlands, according to the SJRA. What it means According to the SJRA news release, the settlement involves the city of Conroe paying the full amount that it was short in paying to SJRA since 2017, which has been held in escrow. Conroe also will begin paying the current rate for treated surface water from Lake Conroe and the ground- water pumpage fee. On the SJRA side, it will provide Conroe with additional surface water and reduce the term of Conroe’s contract, among other terms.
