What would your top priorities be if elected?

President Trump has done a great job securing our border and putting America First. Now, we must codify those changes into law so a future administration cannot easily reverse them. Additionally, we should ban stock trading for members of Congress. They should not get rich o‡ privileged information.

My top priorities remain defeating the drug cartels at our southern border, leading the world with U.S. energy dominance, investing in critical ”ood mitigation projects for TX-2, and supporting President Trump’s policy agenda.

My top priority is protecting the American middle class. I will introduce legislation to reclaim our labor market by restoring accountability to visa programs, strengthening data and IP protections, and slowing job o‡shoring and AI-driven displacement.

Secure the border, restore Šscal responsibility and cut national debt, defend religious liberty and Second Amendment rights, reclaim Congress’s constitutional authority from the executive branch, and defend and protect the unborn.

How will you ensure your district is prepared for extreme weather and ooding?

Recently, a Houston City Council member informed me of a new development that would increase the ”ood risk to Kingwood and South Montgomery County. We immediately began working with state and county o‰cials to shut down the project. I will always listen and take swift action to serve my constituents.

When I ran after Hurricane Harvey, ”ood mitigation became—and remains—a top priority. I have secured over $200 million to dredge the San Jacinto River, reinforce Lake Houston Dam, build detention ponds, improve drainage, upgrade disaster communications, replace Montgomery County’s emergency signal towers, among other federally funded projects.

I will work closely with local o‰cials to identify gaps in emergency preparedness and Šght for funding where infrastructure or planning falls short. I will also hold private utilities and corporations accountable when neglect of critical systems puts public safety at risk.

I will Šght in Washington to bring federal resources home for ”ood mitigation and grid hardening against freezes and heatwaves, while working with state and federal partners to hold power companies and housing developers accountable for reliable infrastructure and cutting waste to prioritize real preparedness.

Candidates were asked to keep responses under 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines, or for style and clarity. For more election coverage, go to www.communityimpact.com/voter-guide.

What are your top three priorities for constituents in Harris County, and why?

Reducing crime, improving public safety, infrastructure including ˆood control, and capital improvements that directly improve safety and quality of life. These are my priorities because Harris County MUST focus on solving problems, not growing bureaucracy.

Cut property taxes because as we’ve all seen our tax dollars are wasted. Create a public safety district that would allow any of more than 12,000 law enforcement ocers in our region to respond to emergency calls. Use the ˆood control bond money approved by voters to address ˆooding.

Supporting law enforcement ocers and rst responders is critical for the safety of our families, homes, and businesses. What are your top three priorities for constituents in Harris County, and why?

My rst priority is a zero-based, accurate budget so every dollar is justied. That foundation allows three priorities to function: public safety and disaster readiness, economic mobility and government accountability. Without honest numbers, even good ideas fail to deliver.

I will prioritize justice by expanding Cite and Release and non-police emergency responses. I’ll establish a County Housing Trust Fund for permanent a•ordability and hold landlords accountable. Finally, I will aggressively fund Harris Health clinics in underserved communities and expand behavioral health services to address the root causes of community …

Flood infrastructure resilience; emergency preparedness; and a•ordability for working families. Next is access to healthcare. These issues directly a•ect safety, stability and quality of life, and require coordinated planning, disciplined budgeting and accountability. Overlaying all these is the imperative to protect Harris County from attacks by Abbott, Paxton, and Trump.

With district boundaries and representation changing, I will make sure no community is left behind by building a strong, accessible constituent services operation. Through neighborhood outreach, mobile oces, digital tools and the Federal Community Advisory Board (FCAB), residents will have clear access to resources, timely support, and a direct line ... No matter how district lines change, I’ll keep ‚ghting to bring resources home. I’ve secured funding for community projects, rail grade separations, energy transition work at the Port, and pollution control services. I know how to deliver federal dollars and will continue doing that for families across the new TX-29. With district boundaries and representation changing, how will you ensure your constituents have the resources they need?

What would your top priorities be if elected?

Top priorities: universal healthcare to cover the uninsured; fully funded public schools with local control; living wages and green jobs to lift poverty; climate resilience against “ooding; criminal justice reform and expanded voting rights to empower our majority Black and Latino community.

Candidate did not respond to questionnaire by press time.

My top priorities are improving healthcare access, creating jobs, supporting education, addressing environmental risks, and strengthening community safety and equity in District 142. I will focus on policies that empower residents, support Black-owned businesses, and ensure every neighborhood thrives with opportunity, resources, and fair representation.

The newly redrawn 29th is a new opportunity. I have represented most of this district already and know its needs. I will provide clear communication, strong constituent services, and visible leadership to unite communities and ensure no one is left behind.

Kingwood Pines Hospital director talks mental health care, stigma Kingwood Pines Hospital, which o ers mental health services for patients of varying ages, works to provide innovative programs and combat negative health stigma to better help patients, said Monica Garcia-Guinessey, the director of business development at Kingwood Pines Hospital, via email Jan. 9. Community Impact spoke to Garcia- Guinessey about mental health treatments and misconceptions. This interview has been edited for length and clarity. How has Kingwood Pines Hospital’s approach to mental health care changed since the facility opened and how has it remained the same? We have changed so much in the 40 years since we opened our doors. Currently, we are o ering

gender speci€c units—we have an exclusively girl’s program for ages 8-12. Two separate teen units—a girl’s unit (ages 13-17) and a boy’s unit (ages 12-17). For adult women, we o er [an] exclusively women’s program. The services provided at our female mental health unit are aimed at helping women who are dealing with various mental health issues; need help coping with traumatic events; and for women facing grief, loss and relationship issues. Additionally, we provide a space for women who are struggling with postpartum depression. ... Are there any new treatments or approaches the hospital has implemented recently? Last year, we opened our €rst o -site outpatient location. ... We now have two outpatient locations. ... These programs are designed to help prevent an inpatient stay in many cases. We o er services for people who need more care than once per week in the community but don’t meet the criteria for an inpatient stay. This means they come for group support led by a master-level clinician for 3-4 hours per day—3-5 times per week— Monday to Friday.

Have you noticed any recent notable trends in the mental health care space? We partnered with KI Charter in response to the needs of our kids/teens as well as the local school districts. Our kids are exhibiting more mental health stressors than ever before. ... We are focusing our e orts [on] educating professionals and families about outpatient services to prevent an inpatient crisis situation, which is traumatic for the person but also the family.

Maximum Rage oers stress-smashing venue Two years ago, Crystal Nwagwu found joy in a rage room lled with the sound of glass shattering. “I thought, well, if I had this much fun doing something like that, I think it would be really nice for others to have the same experience,” Nwagwu said. What’s special about it? Founded in January 2024, Maximum Rage is a family-operated rage room where people are invited to get their rage out in a healthy way. With the majority of items donated by local organizations and individuals, Maximum Rage gives a second life to items that would otherwise be discarded, such as glass beer bottles, TVs, electron- ics, printers and stereo equipment.
