Commuter route to Energy Corridor launched

BY VANESSA HOLT A commuter bus providing service between The Woodlands and the Energy Corridor in Houston launched Jan. 4 after a year of preparation. The three-year pilot service departs from the Sawdust Park and Ride, 701 Westridge Road, The Woodlands, with multiple stops in the Energy Corridor o I-10. The round-trip tickets are $13 and must be purchased in advance through The Woodlands Express Mobile Ticketing app or a park and ride terminal in The Woodlands, according to the township. The service will be oered Mondays through Fridays. In January 2021, township ocials said they hoped to have the details of the service worked

out by the end of the year, and the program was announced in December. Funding for the program is provided by through a Congestion Management and Air Quality grant from the Houston-Galveston Area Council, which makes up 80% of the needed funds. The township and the Energy Corridor District will share funding for the remaining 20%, according to a news release from the township.

This would amount to an annual average of about $60,000 for the township’s portion, said Ruthanne Haut, the township’s deputy director of community services. The need for the service became apparent after 2017, when Shell relocated from downtown Houston to the Energy Corridor, Haut said. The changes aected about 400 The Woodlands-area employees, ocials previously said.
