Schertz receives $1.73M in parks, trails support The city of Schertz acquired grant funds that will help city staff move forward with two park and trail development initiatives, according to a Feb. 9 news release. The financial support totals $1.73 million and will be used for the Hilltop Park project and the West Dietz Creek Trail project. The details For the Hilltop Park project, the Schertz Parks and Recreation Department secured $750,000 from a Texas Parks & Wildlife local park grant. This grant requires a $750,000 value match from the city, which will be provided by area homeowners associations, the South Texas Off Road Mountain-Bikers the parks and recreation budget, according to the release. This 45-acre park project will include a playscape, trails and other amenities.
Cibolo survey tracks resident quality of life According to results from the 2023 Cibolo Resident Survey, 92% of respondents rated the overall quality of life in the city as excellent or good. With this being the first resident survey from the city and having a response rate of 12%, city staff will improve the survey in the future, Mayor Mark Allen said during the Feb. 13 meeting.

The parks and recreation department also secured $980,000 in funds from the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization for the West Dietz Creek Trail project, which will connect Wiederstein Road to Schertz Parkway. This grant requires a $245,000 match from the city, which will come from dedicated trail development funds in the parks and recreation budget, according to the release.
