San Antonio ocials unveil state-of-the-art bike track
San Antonio city ocials unveiled “The Grove” bike track March 18.
and was designed by Action Sports Design, an international consulting rm that helps oversee the construction of skate parks, bike trails and more, according to the rm’s website. The rst riders on the track during the ribbon cutting were youth from across San Antonio, plus an appearance from X Games gold medalist Chase Hawk. Marjesca Brown, president of Friends of McAl- lister Park, or FOMP, said she has helped bring several projects to light at the park since the 1970s. FOMP is a volunteer-led organization that helps to preserve and maintain the park, according to its website. “This is for all riders,” Brown said at the cere- mony. “Especially to bring cycling to our young people and have them progress in the sport for years to come.” Looking ahead Whyte said there are more biking projects on the way. “The ow trails at McAllister Park are just one of six bike projects that are gonna be happening here in San Antonio,” he said. At the end of March, the city also unveiled another new bike track on the West Side at O.P. Schnabel Park, which is also a part of the 2022-2027 Bond Program. This particular track is meant for mountain bikers.
A new bike trail called “The Grove,” ocially opened to the public on March 18 with a rib- bon-cutting ceremony. It is located at McAllister Park o of Buckhorn Road, near the pump track. District 10 council member Marc Whyte said the new track is great for the community in his district. “Amenities like these amazing ow trails ensure that we meet the diverse needs of our active community,” Whyte said. The context The new track is part of San Antonio’s 2022-2027 Bond Program and McAllister Park Project. The approximately $2.03 million initiative is aimed at improving aspects of the park, according to previous reporting from Community Impact . Nikki Ramos, assistant parks and recreation director for the city of San Antonio, said the new track continues to demonstrate the city’s growing cycling infrastructure. “I want to say thank you to everyone for making this happen,” Ramos said. Sorting out details The Grove features both a beginner’s course and a more advanced section, Ramos said at the ribbon cutting. It is approximately two football elds in length
