Tomball ISD approves 202728 academic calendar

Applications opening for LSC’s new degree Lone Star College System will be opening applications later this spring for a new bachelor’s degree in education, according to a Feb. 12 news release from the college system. The big picture The Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education and Teaching will be available this fall at the LSC™Atascocita Center in northeast Houston and the LSC- Creekside Center in Tomball, according to the release. Students can graduate from the two-year program as teachers certišed in early childhood education-third grade or early childhood education-sixth grade. Up to 50 students can enroll in the program at each center this fall.

At its Feb. 10 meeting, Tomball ISD trustees o–cially approved the calendar for the upcoming 2027-28 school year. The gist Due to families’ requests to plan for summer vacation and spring break earlier in the year, the TISD board began to approve the academic cal- endar two years in advance, board Vice President John E. McStravick said. The instructional calendar was presented at the Feb. 9 meeting by Director of Administrative Services Karen Graves. For the 2027-28 school calendar, Graves said the committee highlighted two measures: • Students will begin no earlier than the second Monday of August. • Teachers will begin no earlier than the šrst Monday of August.

According to the approved 2027-28 calendar, the instructional period will run from Aug. 17, 2027, to May 25, 2028. Instructional dates include:

First day of school: Aug. 17, 2027 Thanksgiving break: Nov. 22-26, 2027 Winter break: Dec. 20-31, 2027 Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Jan. 17, 2028

Spring break: March 13-17, 2028 Last day of school: May 25, 2028

Items worth mentioning Trustees also heard a presentation about the new Tomball Intermediate School building. Caitlin Munch, a project architect at Huckabee Architects said that the new building will have a “sleek and open light design,” and multiple vantage points for teachers and student resource o–cers to watch students.
