the skills she learned during her six weeks at Wonders & Worries in her every day life, such as recognizing when she is anxious and knowing healthy coping mechanisms. Halder and her husband also learned important communication skills from parenting classes that have beneted their family long after their time as clients ended. Halder said she now uses her experience as a client to help families going through similar situations. Wonders & Worries began in Austin, and its original location is on Burnet Road near US 183. The orga- nization now has seven locations, serving the greater Austin, Houston and San Antonio communities. Going forward, Wonders & Worries would like to expand their reach so that families around the country can have access to similar services.

& Worries does rst hand. Halder came to the nonprot, which helps children process their parents’ illness and injuries, as a client. “It’s this lifelong membership to a club you don’t want, but knowing that you have it makes you feel safe," Halder said. In 2009, Halder’s oldest daughter needed help processing Halder’s heart and thyroid conditions. Halder went on to become a board member so she could dedicate her time to furthering the organization’s mission. Wonders & Worries helps children learn about illness and injury through one-on-one or group sessions using real and fake medical toys. The organization also gives parents tools to talk parents about their conditions and oers opportunities for profes- sionals to continue their education

Children are given the opportunity to learn about their parents’ illness or injury through medical tools.

Outreach and Development Director Nicole Halder uses her experience as a former client in her current role.
