TRANSPORTATION UPDATES Trinity Metro ‘leads’ in ridership recovery, says CEO

Trinity Metro is leading Texas tran- sit agencies in regard to recovered ridership levels since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. President and CEO Richard Andreski provided an update on Trinity Metro to Grape- vine City Council on May 2. Trinity Metro is a transportation authority that provides service to the city of Fort Worth and surrounding suburbs of the Dallas-Fort Worth met- ropolitan area. Its services include buses; the Trinity Railway Express; TEXRail; Access, which provides service to those with disabilities; and the rideshare service Zipzone. What happened: Andreski cited TEXRail’s ridership levels, upcoming rail extensions and new programs as successes for the transit agency. • Ridership was 89% recovered in February 2023 compared to February 2020. • TEXRail sees 74% growth annually in ridership. In four years and a few months, Andreski said TEXRail has

Jellico Circle Road Work The city of Southlake and Tarrant County will perform road work on Jel- lico Circle. Two inches of a concrete mix will be placed on the surface after it is grounded down to the base layer in a process called wedge milling. Southlake will pay for the cost of the materials and delivery fees as well as half of the fuel cost for Tarrant County, perform the milling and put stripes on the road. The county will supply labor and heavy equipment for the work. Timeline: June-July Cost: $126,420 Funding source: City of Southlake Capital improvement program

DFW’s station at Terminal D is No. 1, Andreski said. • On TEXRail, 23% of riders begin and end their ride in Grapevine. • 72,000 bikes were rented as part of Fort Worth’s bike share program. • What they are saying : “Ridership declined signicantly during COVID[-19], and I’m pleased to say

we’re almost back to 100%, and we expect to be back to 100% of our ridership by the end of this year,” Andreski said. “That’s a great and heartening trend.” Going forward: Trinity Metro’s rail extension and electric bike share pro- gram are new and upcoming services Andreski highlighted. • A program is coming to upgrade Trinity Railway Express.
