Ocials break ground on new YMCA
How we got here
Representatives with the city of Georgetown and the Central Texas YMCA celebrated the start of a project that will construct a 55,000-square-foot recreation facility at a May 29 ceremony. The Sport Clips Family YMCA will be the rst full-service YMCA in the city, and will cost $36 million. With construction set to ocially begin in June, the project will be led by contractor Chasco Constructors, and will take about 18 months to complete. The new facility will provide recreation, and community activities and events for residents. Visitors can expect youth, family, health and senior wellness programs, according to a YMCA news release. Voters approved $10 million in bond funding for the project in November 2023. The remaining cost will be funded by the YMCA of Central Texas, the Georgetown YMCA Founders Group, Sport Clips and local fundraising eorts.
The YMCA of Central Texas and the city of Georgetown began collaborating to deliver a new YMCA facility in February 2022, according to previous Community Impact reporting. While the Georgetown Family YMCA has provided after school childcare at Georgetown elementary schools, as well as youth programs and summer day camps at its storefront, the new building will be the city’s rst fully equipped facility. “This is just a huge stake in the ground for what [the YMCA is] going to be doing for generations in the future, and that is going to make our community better,” City Manager David Morgan said at the ceremony.
