City hires new chief information officer Omar Rodriguez, McKinney’s new chief information officer, began his role with the city on Nov. 13, according to a news release. Rodriguez brings more than 25 years of experience in information technology to the role, including 20 years in municipal govern- ment positions. Zooming in Prior to joining the staff in McKinney, Rodriguez served as an assistant IT chief for Dallas County. Other roles Rodriguez has held include IT director for Denton Municipal Energy as well as other technology-focused roles with the city of Garland, Texas. Rodriguez served in the U.S. Navy and obtained a bachelor’s degree as well as a master’s degree from Lamar University.
New members at McKinney libraries Library staff added 11,769 new members in FY 2023, which is a record high and brings the library systems' total membership to 64,913.

Operating hours to shift at McKinney libraries McKinney’s public libraries will soon operate on new opening schedules that will increase the total number of hours library services are available each week, city staff said. What you need to know The upcoming changes to operating hours at
McKinney’s two libraries, which will be effective Jan. 2, include expanded hours on Sunday as well as different operating hours at the libraries. Roy & Helen Hall Memorial Library will be open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Mon.-Thu. while John and Judy Gay Library will be open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Mon.-Thu. Both locations will operate from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Fri.-Sun. How we got here The new operating hours were determined using an analysis of library user data by hour of the day and day of the week, according to city documents.

City Council members also approved selling $24.5 million in certificates of obligation for projects at McKinney National Airport, including a 40,000-square-foot corporate hangar and a U.S. Customs facility. City staff choose to sell the debt as certificates of obligation because it would have the lowest cost to the city, McKinney National Airport Director Ken Carley said.
