Prosper officials consider new retail center Prosper residents could see a new retail center, including a gas station, at the intersection of First Street and Legacy Drive. What happened Planning and Zoning commissioners approved a zoning change at a July 15 meeting to allow a gas station at the intersection of a major and minor thoroughfare, which is an exception to current town rules that only permit gas stations at the intersections of two major roads. Hector Leon, project manager with Westwood Services and a representative for the developer, said the current concept plan includes a grocery store and restaurants, but only the gas station and some infrastructure are moving forward as of now. The gas station will still require separate approval. “[The gas station] is the only thing that is set in stone [in the site plan],” Leon said. “As soon as

Celina City Council tabled a development agreement to expand the Uptown commu- nity until July. Council voted to table the item because the agreement wasn’t finalized in time for the council’s June 10 meeting. The new portion of the development will be called Glen at Uptown and will bring 125 single-family homes. It will also add another 41 acres to Celina from the city’s extraterri- torial jurisdiction.

As part of the approval, commissioners added the conditions for the development, including: increase the open space requirement and require a special use permit for any future farmers market. What’s next? The zoning request will go before Prosper Town Council for a public hearing Aug. 12.
