$41.02M contract for new school approved At a Feb. 23 meeting, Katy ISD board of trustees approved a nearly $41.02 million con- struction contract with Drymalla Construc- tion Company for the construction of its 49th elementary school at Pitts Road and Sunterra Point Drive on the district’s northwest side. The details Officials said it has become necessary for a new primary school to be built as the popula- tion continues to grow in the northwest area. The project will be funded by the dis- trict’s $840.6 million bond, which was 95% approved by voters in November 2023, Community Impact reported. Going forward The new elementary school is expected to begin construction in March and is slated to be completed by June 2027, officials said.

Opportunity Awareness Center design approved At a Feb. 23 meeting, Katy ISD board of trustees approved the design of the new Opportunity Awareness Center building as the district looks to expand the growing Miller Career and Technology Center in its former space. The specifics The Opportunity Awareness Center, or OAC, is the disciplinary alternative education program for Katy ISD, which serves students who have broken the Texas Education Code or the district’s student code of conduct, OAC Principal Janelle Coleman said. The new $10 million center is set to be located along Katy Fort Bend Road, not far from where the current OAC is housed in the Miller Career & Technology Center.
