Bee Cave to move historic schoolhouse to Star Hill Ranch
Over 120 years ago, the rst settlers of Bee Cave built a small frame schoolhouse for their children to attend. Now, the city of Bee Cave plans to move the building to Star Hill Ranch, a historic town replica on Hamilton Pool Road. Approved at a Feb. 27 council meeting, the relo- cation will make way for the new 20,000-square- foot Bee Cave Police Department and Lake Travis Fire Facility. Star Hill Ranch owner Adam Woolley said he’s targeting late April for the move. The Old Bee Cave School House has served as a civic meeting space for decades, however, once moved, the building will no longer be available for public reservations. During the meeting, council members discussed the likelihood that meeting spaces in the new Bee Cave Public Library will be operable by fall 2025. A temporary location has not been determined, but all existing reservations will be honored, a city spokesperson said.
The details Moving the building will cost about $10,000 more than demolition, Parks and Facilities Direc- tor Lanie Marcotte said. “A lot of these old buildings will have asbestos in the window putty and lead in the paint, and it can open a can of worms when you start crushing them,” said Woolley, who has helped move over 20 historic buildings throughout Central Texas in an eort to preserve them. To avoid trac disruptions, the move will take place overnight. Some context Star Hill Ranch is home to two other historic buildings from Bee Cave’s past, including the rst Bee Cave Post Oce & Store and an old farmhouse. The property is used for lm sets, community events and private events, such as weddings and award ceremonies.
Currently, the Old Bee Cave School House is located at 13333 Hwy. 71, Bee Cave.
