Harper said the chamber will focus on growth as it expands to Willis and Montgomery after merging with the Montgomery Area Chamber. “You think about how dierent the world looked 90 years ago and how the chamber found ways to connect and grow business,” Harper said. “That’ll never change.” Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce celebrates 90 years Originally established as the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce in April 1934, the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce is celebrating 90 years serving the area. “Our location might have changed from the downtown area, but our mission has never changed,” chamber President Scott Harper said. Looking back The need for the chamber of commerce was initiated in an advertisement in a 1934 issue of the Conroe Courier. Originally located in a log cabin built in the 1920s, the chamber moved to larger locations in downtown Conroe as it expanded. As the community expanded, the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber developed organizations includ- ing the Montgomery County Fair Association and Leadership Montgomery County. Future plans

Montgomery County Day at the Texas Capitol and the D.C. Fly-In have occurred in alternate years, allowing members to participate in the legislative process.
