Some Santa Rita Middle School students in Liberty Hill ISD may attend class in portables. The LHISD board of trustees approved moving three vacant portables from other campuses to Santa Rita Middle School at an April 21 meeting. What’s happening Santa Rita Middle School has an “immediate need for additional classroom space,” Director of Construction Dustin Akin said. The campus is projected to enroll 1,450 students next school year, Akin said. The middle school, which was built for a capacity of 1,200 students, enrolled around 1,254 students as of February, district o‡cials said. LHISD to add portables as enrollment grows

The board approved spending nearly $109,000 from the district’s general fund to relocate two por- tables from Liberty Hill Elementary and a portable from Liberty Hill Middle School. The three portables will provide six new class- rooms for Santa Rita students and are expected to arrive before school begins in August, Akin said.

The discussion School board President Megan Parsons said the portables would be temporary and hopefully no longer needed after the district opens more schools. ”I hate having to put kids in portables,” trustee Chris Neighbors added. “But unfortunately it’s a necessary evil.”
