Some Frisco ISD residents could see nearly $900 taken off their tax bills with the district’s new tax rate. FISD board of trustees lowered the district’s tax rate for the 2023-24 fiscal year in a unanimous vote. The new tax rate is $1.0275 per $100 valuation, which is $0.18 lower than last year. The overview The new tax rate is broken down into two pieces. Maintenance and operations, covers the district’s operations such as payroll. That rate is $0.7575 per $100 valuation. The second piece is interest and sinking, which pays for the district’s principal and interest on its debts. That rate is $0.27 per $100 valuation. Frisco ISD officials have claimed an exemption to newly passed state legislation regarding security officers due to a lack of available qualified officers. FISD board of trustees approved a good cause exception to the law Aug. 14 in a 6-1 vote. Trustee Stephanie Elad voted against the resolution. Under the new law, FISD would need an additional 44 security officers to comply with House Bill 3, Executive Director of Opera- tions James Hill said. If the school board did not claim an exception, Hill said the district would not be
