Frisco officials are one step closer to approving the city’s new budget and tax rate. Frisco City Council members held the first of two budget-cen- tered public hearings during their Aug. 15 meeting. What you need to know The city’s proposed general fund for fiscal year 2023-24 is $266.84 million. Some items listed in the fund include: • more than 55 new full-time-equivalent positions, 32 positions of which would go to the Frisco Police Department • the city’s budget is slated to add more than 70 new positions altogether • $7.38 million for library expenditures Another update in the budget is a new $0.432205 per $100 valua- tion property tax rate to replace the city’s $0.4466 rate. Budget shows lower property tax rate Universal Kids Frisco is one step closer to its June 2026 opening. Frisco Planning and Zoning Commission members unani- mously approved a preliminary site plan for the park during their Aug. 8 meeting. The gist The plan includes: • An 8-foot-tall berm and hedge screen in a 30-foot buffer along Dallas Parkway • A 6-foot-tall berm and hedge screen in a 25-foot buffer along Fields Parkway and Panther Creek Parkway

Keep in mind While no residents chose to speak during the public hearing portion of the Aug. 15 meeting, they still have opportunities to share their thoughts with coun- cil, Mayor Jeff Cheney said. “This public hearing process is the opportunity for our residents to give us feedback,” Cheney said. “You don’t have to neces- sarily come to speak before us during the council meeting—send us your emails or calls.” Residents who are unable to attend the meetings in person can watch a livestream on the city’s website.

Officials approve Universal site plan • A 6-foot tall berm and hedge screen in an 18.5-foot buffer along Frisco Street

The site plan was originally on the commission’s July 25 agenda, but the applicant requested an extension, Development Services Director John Lettelleir said at the July meeting. The theme park will be 30 acres, leaving more than 60 acres of the 97.4-acres for expansions. Stay tuned Universal plans are expected to be discussed further at future commission meetings.
