2022 HEALTH CARE EDITION
Upgrading women’s services A 7-month, nearly $3 million renovation project at North Central Baptist Hospital, scheduled for completion by the end of June, will result in an updated, expanded, 13,000-square-foot women’s services section that Baptist Health System calls “the nest.” Some featured improvements are listed below.
Healthier outcomes According to North Central Baptist Hospital, upgrades in the women’s services area also help to highlight the importance of prenatal care, ensure a pregnancy ends with the successful delivery of a healthy baby and reduce the infant mortality rate, or the number of deaths per 1,000 live births.

of clean space to existing private suites. “We also remodeled the classroom used for childbirth preparation classes to welcome parents from their rst steps of pregnancy throughout their delivery,” Baxter said. Paige Dvorak, a Bulverde resident and registered nurse at North Central Baptist Hospital, said she expects to give birth to her second child this Sep- tember at NCBH.
Dvorak said the enhancements add to the comfort that she already has about the level of care she expects from “the nest.” “It’s great to see a hospital spend a little money on the women’s services side, which is something you don’t see very often. It’s great to see that these improvements and expansions will ensure moms and their [babies] have top-notch equipment,” Dvorak said.
According to Dvorak, the enhance- ments coupled with the hospital’s existing pre- and post-natal educa- tion classes as well as other women’s services are all designed to make sure mothers and newborns immediately get the best care possible. “They want to make moms feel com- fortable and have you and the baby get home safely. It’s not like you check in, give birth, check out and they forget
about you—not at all,” she said. Salgado agreed with Wheeler and Dvorak, and said he is heartened when maternity patients say they travel past other hospitals just to come to NCBH. “I think that makes what we do worth it,” he added.
