DISTRICT HIGHLIGHT MCKINNEY ISD McKinney High School’s multipurpose building, also called Poe Dome, will receive upgraded locker rooms this summer after approval from the school board at a Feb. 22 meeting. Poe Dome was built in 1996. The lockers in the building were replaced last summer. After the facilities department upgraded the lockers, they noticed the ceilings and xtures were outdated, Chief Operations Ocer Greg Suttle said. The refresh will include new nishes on the showers and restrooms. New paint, cabinets, LED lighting, plumbing xtures and ceiling grids will also be added. The project costs just over $378,000, according to meeting documents.
College to debut new degree programthis fall COLLINCOLLEGE The college system announced March 17 that it will oer a bachelor’s degree in construc- tion management this fall. This is the third baccalaureate degree at the school. The college began its Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity programs in 2020. Collin College’s Technical Campus in Allen will host the program. Students will learn skills such as scheduling, plan- ning and cost estimating for construction projects; project safety; and risk management, per the release.

McKinney ISD purchases 55 new school buses

MCKINNEY ISD The district will receive 55 new school buses after the purchase was approved by the board of trustees at its March 22 meeting. The district’s 2021 bond program allotted $12 million for the purchase of buses, according to meeting documents. MISD expects to buy buses in three separate transactions, the documents stated. The rst purchase was approved at the March
meeting for about $5.8 million. Longhorn Bus Sales, the supplier, esti- mated the district would receive the buses in about 270 days, although supply-chain issues could delay the arrival. The 2021 bond program allows MISD to own its buses, which is a change from the previous structure of renting from Durham School Services, according to meeting documents.
