Generation Park to house biotechnology center San Jacinto College will open a biotechnology center at its Generation Park campus by the first quarter of 2025, officials announced Oct. 19. The big picture According to an Oct. 19 news release, SJC has part- nered with the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training to offer students NIBRT- licensed training and with McCord Development— the owner of Generation Park—for the biotechnol- ogy center. San Jacinto College to launch new degree In light of an increased demand for cyber- security professionals, San Jacinto College will begin offering a new degree in fall 2024, officials announced in a Nov. 16 news release. A closer look According to the release, 40 students are anticipated to enroll in classes for SJC’s new bachelor’s degree—which will be an informa- tion technology degree with an emphasis in cybersecurity—in fall 2024. What’s next To finalize the new program, college offi- cials will notify the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Higher Education Regional Council, and create a curriculum and propose it to The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
