Google Fiber installing high-speed network Round Rock residents and business owners can expect to have high-speed internet access early next year through ber optic provider Google Fiber. The overview Google Fiber representatives along with Round Rock and Williamson County leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 13 to mark the start of the ber optic cable construction in south- east Round Rock. As part of a 2022 agreement approved by Round Rock City Council, Google Fiber will install, maintain and operate the ber optic network. The agreement makes Round Rock the third city in Texas to receive the service after Austin and San Antonio, according to city ocials. Prices for the service start at $70 per month. City representatives said the street-level construction will consist of “shallow trenching,”

Multifamily housing underway in Hutto A multifamily housing development set on 30 acres of land in south Hutto is set to be completed in 2025. According to a news release from devel- oper Empire Group of Companies, Village at Hutto Station broke ground and began construction Aug. 28. The details Per the news release, a $62.4 million loan to fund the project was secured from Arbor Realty. The development will include: • 276 one-, two- and three-bedroom rental units, ranging from 680 to 1,300 square feet • Private backyards • Smart home technology packages • A resort-style pool, re pits, a tness center, a clubhouse, walking trails and a dog park

New Ascension Seton Williamson ICU now open The new surgical intensive care unit at Ascen- sion Seton Williamson in Round Rock will allow area residents in need of comprehensive treatment to stay a little closer to home. The overview Ascension Seton Williamson celebrated the new Nancy Crouse and Craig McCurdy Surgical Intensive Care Unit on Sept. 6. The 16-bed SICU—now part of the hospital’s Level II trauma care services—quickly lled up after it began accepting patients Aug. 1, according to the provider. Put in perspective The hospital’s new unit is the rst facility in Williamson County oering a level of care equal to that of Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas. The facility is led by Dr. Ankur Bhakta and Dr. Jonathan Lundy.

Aordable housing units to open in 2024 More aordable housing is expected to become available in the Round Rock area in 2024 as LS Black Development is working to build an $88 million apartment complex. On a 9-acre parcel in Round Rock’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, The Preserve at Mustang Creek will include 252 units, all of which will go to households that make 30% -60% of the area median income. A con- struction timeline has not been announced.

Featuring cutting-edge technology, the SICU is meant to care for patients who have been in a traumatic incident or have had a complex surgical procedure. According to Ascension Seton, studies indicate patients who receive specialized care in a SICU experience better outcomes, such as shorter hospital stays. “This has been my dream for the last four years since I’ve been here—to be able to create WilCo as the place where I bring my family, where others bring their families,” Bhakta said.
