For more information on the program, visit www.summerfood.org. HUTTO ISD Trustees approved the creation of six new district sta positions at a May 25 board meeting. The new positions include a special education teacher at Veterans’ Hill Elementary School and instructional aides at Cottonwood Creek, Veterans’ Hill and Ray elementaries as well as Farley Middle School and Hutto Middle School.
Trustees approve committee for facilities planning

HUTTO ISD A new committee consisting of community members, district sta and district o cials will help Hutto ISD plan for its future growth. The HISD board of trustees approved the creation of the long- range master facilities planning committee at a May 25 meeting. The committee will consist of 60 people, 25 of whom will be district sta and o cials and 35 of whom will be board-appointed citizens. Assistant Superintendent of Operations Henry Gideon said the committee’s work will largely involve providing input and direc- tion regarding the district’s strategic plan, speci cally as it concerns construction and improvement of Hutto ISD facilities. Gideon said he hopes to have the committee begin meeting in July.

Hutto ISD o cials give approval for Middle School No. 3 schematic design

HUTTO ISD The district’s third middle school is set to move into its next design phase. At a May 25 Hutto ISD board meeting, trustees approved a schematic design for a third HISD middle school. The 170,800-square-foot middle school, located just south of Kerley Elementary School, will have a capacity of 1,200 students. Design rm VLK Architects incor- porated public input from HISD students and sta into the design. Key features of the design
include a 186-space parking lot; the incorporation of technology for blended learning; and a focus on compact, e cient use of space. With the schematic design approved, VLK can move into the design development phase. Construction is projected to be complete in fall 2024. VLK does not yet have a cost estimate, but $77.76 million of the district’s $194 million bond approved in 2019 was set aside for middle school improvements and construction of the new school.
