“It’s a very precise test that gives us a good under- standing of what that person’s need is instead of just saying, ‘Hey, everybody’s doing this, and you should be doing it, too,’” Sassani said. With a plan in place, clients can get to work in small-group training sessions, utilizing the workout room’s diverse array of equipment. The small-group setting allows trainers to give clients plenty of personal attention, but Sassani said it also does wonders for community building and motivation. “Everybody wants to be around each other. They laugh. They get to become friends,” Sassani said. “It’s another reason to show up to the gym instead of just showing up for the coach.” In the past year, Bodies By Design expanded to add spaces for an orthopedic massage therapist and

By Design must rst interviewwith a trainer to determine whether they are a good t for the gym’s group-oriented philosophy. “We’re very protective of that environment,” Sassani said. “We put everybody that’s new through that rigorous process to make sure that we’re going to be a good match for each other so they don’t waste our time, and we don’t waste their time, either.” Following the initial interview, clients undergo a series of tests from a device called an InBody machine to determine metrics such as body fat percentage, muscle mass and water density. Trainers then work with the client based on the results of the tests as well as the client’s personal goals and history to create a detailed tness and nutrition plan.
