Board of trustees approves 202223 instructional calendar

Carroll ISD employees now prohibited from secretly recording meetings Carroll ISD trustees approved an amendment to district policy prohibiting employees from secretly recording certain district meetings in a unanimous vote Dec. 13. First proposed in November, the amendment further claries when it is acceptable for sta to make an audio or visual recording of a meeting. Gordon Butler, assistant superintendent of student and sta services, described the procedure as a notication provision. “What we’re saying is, you can record— but you just have to tell us that you’re recording,” Butler said. The new language, which goes into eect in the 2022-23 school year, will not aect recordings involving authorized investigations conducted by district personnel or usually recorded meetings, such as board meetings or grievance hearings. Butler said several other districts in the area have similar policies or similar language in their employee handbook, including Dallas ISD.

BY BAILEY LEWIS GRAPEVINECOLLEYVILLE ISD Trustees approved the school district’s 2022-23 instructional calendar at their Dec. 13 regular meeting. Among the noteworthy changes to the adopted schedule is winter break for the 2022-23 school year, which will take place from Dec. 21 to Jan. 9, according to the calendar. In comparison to the 2021-22 calendar, which had its winter break from Dec. 20 to Jan. 4, the 2022-23 winter break—including weekends—will be four days longer. Instructional calendar drafts were reviewed by the District Excellence Committee on Nov. 11, and two were reviewed and received input from campus leadership teams, according to district documents. Lance Groppel, GCISD executive director of instructional leadership, said a community survey sent out to help the district received over 1,800 responses. The results showed that 61.4% were in favor of calendar Option B—the approved calendar—and 38.6% were in favor of Option A, which had a winter break more similar to the 2021-22 school year. However, both spring break and Thanksgiving break will last for ve days, which is the same length as both breaks for 2021-22, according to the calendar. The 2022-23 spring
