Safety plan for West San Antonio Street unveiled The city of New Braunfels is moving forward with a plan to reallocate street space on West San Antonio Street, prioritizing safety, access, mobility and parking in the downtown area. The approach The project focuses on the segment of West San Antonio Street from Walnut Street to Main Plaza, a major east-west arterial through downtown that serves adjacent commercial and residential areas, said Garry Ford, the director of transportation and capital improvements for the city. Ford identified this segment of San Antonio Street as a high-crash priority roadway, with 38 crashes reported over a four-year period, including two serious injuries and three involving pedestrians and bicyclists. Out of all the recommendations Ford pre- sented, the following option was recommended,

Parks department adopts new ADA plan The New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department adopted an ADA Transition Plan to meet national accreditation stan- dards on Oct. 8. The details The plan will guide the department in improving accessibility across facilities and programs, serving as an interim measure until the city’s broader ADA plan is final- ized, New Braunfels parks analyst Shannon Jackson said. The city was previously accredited in 2020 but did not meet the standard for hav- ing an ADA transition plan, Jackson said. The adopted interim plan will allow the city to present it as part of its documentation for the 2025 re-accreditation process.

On Comal Avenue, there is capacity to remove parking on one side of the street without issues. On Faust Street, removing parking on one side may be challenging, as parking is heavily utilized. Next steps The city plans to develop a final recommenda- tion; estimate costs; engage the public and stake- holders; and bring the proposal back to council.

Staff conducted a parking study for the street bikeway facility design project, analyzing uti- lization and the potential impacts of removing parking, city engineer Carly Farmer said.
