Friendswood vet practice values family-centric care

Dr. Aresue Shokrollahi-McClain’s veterinary practice in Friendswood operates a little di erently than other standard practices. For one, only one of her four exam rooms has the typical metal exam table standing in the middle. Instead, the rooms have ottomans and couches, so dogs can sit in or near their owner’s laps and be less nervous. Shokrollahi-McClain also said the practice can o er at-home treatments. “There’s a travel fee ... and that’s between [sta ] and the client, but at least the dog isn’t hurting more to get here for a treatment to make them not hurt,” she said.
Staying local Family Animal Hospital of Friendswood was established in 1986, but it wasn’t until 2015 that Shokrollahi took over as an owner. She said she incorporated the same type of care that the previous owner, Alexander Young III, founded the veterinary clinic on. Shokrollahi-McClain also said that while larger corporate veterinary practices have deeper pockets and more employees, “they don’t know you and they haven’t known that puppy since you got it for Christmas that one year for your teenager,” she said. What’s in a name Family Animal Hospital of Friendswood o ers a range of services, including dental care, grooming,
boarding and preventative care. The practice includes digital radiography and a surgical suite where Shokrollahi-McClain performs procedures from C-sections to ACL repairs. For Shokrollahi-McClain, it’s all about relationships. “I have a lot of joy in knowing people over time and having a pet that was here as a puppy and then seeing them go through those teenage years and nally being a senior,” she said. “We call it Family Animal Hospital because you start to get to feel like they’re your family over time.”
